Cell – Carve
A refined, nature-derived texture inspired by cellular structures found throughout plant life, transforming surfaces into exceptional modern architectural finishes that meet the demand for today’s most specified textured finishes.
CELL creates a balanced, organic pattern that brings subtle structure and visual harmony to the surface. Rooted in the geometry of living systems, it introduces depth and movement without overwhelming the space.
The result is a finish that echoes the natural world, bringing more of nature inside in a subtly distinctive way.
Variation: Carve — for plasters and mortars with body. Cuts into the surface for true depth.
Built for professionals who demand consistency, efficiency, and finishes that command higher value.
Designed for seamless repeat using the alignment arrow on the roller head, allowing you to scale patterns cleanly across full surfaces.

Roller FAQs
Materials & Usage
What materials can I use these rollers with?
These tools are designed for architectural coatings, including:
- Mineral, lime & marble plasters
- Microcement
- Metallic coatings
- Liquid metals
- Architectural mortars
They are not intended for standard paint applications.
Do I need experience to use these?
Some familiarity with decorative finishes helps.
These tools are designed to improve control, consistency, and repeatability as you develop your skill — not replace the material knowledge required to work with these systems.
However, our tools make it easier for you to uplevel your skills as a surface designer.
When do I roll the pattern into the surface?
Timing depends on the material.
In most cases, the pattern is applied as the material begins to set — when it holds form but is still workable. Just not wet!
Once the material is set up enough, lubricate the roller head with a light mist of water from a spray bottle. Some coatings require a continuous spray of water as you move the roller from the top of the wall to the bottom.
Always experiment with the amount of water you need for lubrication and to ensure it does not negatively impact the finish material or color.
Relief vs. Carve
What’s the difference between Carve and Relief?
Relief creates a raised pattern and is used with thinner coatings applied over a base layer.
Carve creates an inverted, sculptural texture and is used with heavier materials like mineral and concrete plasters or mortars.
Both carve/relief form a complete surface system you can experiment with in each material to determine your final design.
Are all patterns available in both Relief and Carve?
No.
Some organic nature-based patterns are designed specifically for one format based on how they interact with different materials.
How do I choose between Relief and Carve?
It depends on the material and the effect you want.
Relief produces a more refined, pressed-in pattern.
Carve produces deeper, more raised, dimensional surfaces.
Performance & Differentiation
What makes these different from standard rollers?
These are not paint rollers.
They’re precision-built, handcrafted texture tools designed for architectural surface systems.
Each roller is developed from real project work, engineered and crafted with premium materials to create consistent, repeatable patterns across large surfaces with greater control, less fatigue, and higher-quality results.
- Weighted core improves compression and pattern consistency
- Platinum silicone construction ensures durability and clean release
- Alignment system arrow on the side allows seamless pattern repetition at scale
- Proprietary patterns not available anywhere else
These tools are part of a larger system — designed to help you produce higher-value finishes, work more efficiently, and expand what’s possible with modern surface materials.
Designed to move your work beyond flat finishes — and into high-value surface design.
Do these improve consistency across large surfaces?
Yes.
The weighted core and pattern design improve compression control, allowing for more consistent texture and seamless repetition across large areas.
Will these reduce application time?
Yes — especially on larger surfaces.
These tools are designed to create repeatable texture quickly and efficiently, reducing the need for manual sculpting and rework.
Are these durable enough for professional use?
Yes.
Each roller is hand-cast using premium platinum silicone and built around a weighted core, designed for long-term durability and repeated use on active job sites.
Care & Maintenance
How do I clean the rollers?
Clean immediately after use with water or the appropriate cleaner for your material.
Do not allow the material to fully dry or cure on the roller! We love Spray9 or Dawn soap and a small soft brush for easy, fast, and efficient precision cleanups.
How long will they last?
With proper care, these tools are designed for repeated professional use across multiple projects. We’ve designed and built each roller to last. Keeping rollers clean and dry when stored will increase longevity.
Project Use & Application
Can I use these on large feature walls?
Yes.
These tools are specifically designed to create seamless, repeatable patterns at scale. The 9” roller is best for larger surfaces, while your 4.5” roller will handle smaller, tighter spaces for the same pattern. The 9” and 4.5” make a complete set.
Do these tools work across different surface systems?
Yes.
They are designed to work across a range of architectural materials — allowing you to expand your capabilities beyond a single finish type.
Training & Support
Do you offer training or guidance on how to use these?
Yes.
Each tool includes access to technique-based guidance, helping you understand:
- How to use the pattern
- Material compatibility
- Different application approaches
- Tips and tricks
This is part of a broader system designed to support your growth in surface design.
What is Surface Arts Society?
The Surface Arts Society is our upcoming training and mentorship platform.
We’re aggregating the very best of our industry in one place.
