About
If you’ve been doing the same work for years and feel like there should be more to it… You’re not wrong.
Most people in this trade know the rhythm.
Rolling walls, matching specs, moving fast just to stay competitive.
You get good at it.
Yet, the work itself doesn’t really change much, right?
It’s not a lack of skill.
It’s a ceiling built into the work.
When it comes to decorative finishes, most applicators are taught how to apply finishes to surfaces.
Not how to actually design surfaces.
Not how to work with materials in a deeper way.
Not how to move into higher-value work.
In the finishing industry, even experienced painters and drywall contractors often stay stuck in the same cycle.
Same finishes.
Similar pricing. (much of which is being squeezed nowadays)
Same projects.
We didn’t set out to build a tool brand.
This all started on a hospitality project we had in the Caribbean.
We were designing large-scale feature walls for a restaurant, inspired by living coral formations.
The goal wasn’t just applying a decorative coating.
It was to create surfaces that felt like they could touch the coral reef’s organic textures and admire the artistic beauty of brain coral patterns that lived just feet away from the hotel shores, and fully integrate them into the walls of the space.
We needed a way to imprint those patterns into plaster.
Nothing we could find worked.
We tested.
Failed.
Tried again.
Over and over.
Until we realized the tools we needed didn’t exist! Anywhere.
So we built them.
That’s where the first patterns, Maze and Labyrinth, came from.
Working with the world's most exceptional finish coatings and materials is exciting every day.
Designing surfaces for high-end luxury and hospitality projects that set us apart is truly doing what we love.
Nothing makes us happier than seeing what’s possible when premium finishes are treated as part of the architecture, not an afterthought that gets built into the budget later.
At the same time, we saw the other side of the finishing industry.
Skilled, talented people, like painters and drywall contractors, stuck doing the same repetitive work, begging us to teach them how to do what we were doing.
Capable of more, but without the tools, guidance, or a clear path forward.
What began as an exciting solution for one project evolved into a complete texture system and a community we aim to share this with.
Our focus is simple
To give people the tools, the knowledge, and the mentorship, as well as a connection with a global community of bright minds, to move up into a higher level of work and prosperity.
Not just to learn better finishes.
But to have a way forward to build something more valuable from the skill they already have, and make it sustainable.
And the industry doesn’t address the elephant in the room
Training exists.
But most of it is too short, surface-level, and definitely transactional.
Most trainings require expensive travel on top of the fees.
You attend.
You make a sample board.
You get a certificate.
Then you’re on your own.
No ongoing mentorship.
No continuing guidance.
No support when things go wrong on real jobs.
And no one is really teaching you how to turn the skill into a business that actually grows.
So people learn just enough to start…
and then stall and lose momentum.
At the same time, we’re at the beginning of an incredible shift
There is a clear shift happening in the world of architecture and design.
Across hospitality.
Across high-end residential.
Across architecture globally.
Flat paint is no longer enough.
Surfaces are becoming part of the design language.
Texture.
Material.
Depth.
Playing with light.
Walls are no longer just the background.
They’re part of the experience.
We’re in a full-blown movement in the interior design world that is fully embracing the exciting world of architectural finishes and the textures they offer that are finally moving us beyond the old standard, paint.
That’s the gap we chose to step into
The demand is moving forward.
But most of the industry is still catching up.
And the people who should be leading this next wave…
are the ones being left behind.
The people capable of doing this work are still:
under-equipped
under-trained
left to figure it out alone
Mostly unaware of the incredible opportunity that exists in becoming a true surface designer.
What we built
Surface Arts Tools came out of real project work.
We needed a way to create controlled, repeatable texture in architectural finishes.
Textures that are elevated, unique, and intentionally designed for this level of work.
Nothing available gave us the level of design or control required.
So we developed it ourselves.
What began as a solution for one project evolved into a comprehensive texture system.
Tools designed to work with real materials and produce results that go beyond flat finishes.
What we make
These aren’t rollers designed for paint.
They’re built for materials like:
Mineral plasters
Microcement
Metallics and liquid metal finishes
Architectural mortars
Each pattern is developed from natural forms or designed intentionally, then prototyped, molded, and hand-cast in platinum silicone. We make all the roller head parts by hand.
The purpose is simple.
To give you control so that the surface you create is up to you.
Whatever you create with these textures, we hope is something exceptional you can be proud of.
Where the shift happens
At a certain point, the work stops being an application.
And starts becoming surface design.
That shift changes everything.
The type of projects you take on.
The value attached to your work.
And how your work is seen.
It’s no longer just a trade.
It becomes a craft. An art form.
And for many, a completely different path forward.
And this is only part of it
The tools are the entry point.
But what’s been missing in this industry, what we mentioned above, is what comes after.
That’s why we’re building the Surface Arts Society.
A place for:
ongoing training
real mentorship
business and technical growth
So you’re not left to figure it out alone…
and so you can actually move forward with complete confidence.
Who this is for
This is for people who feel the limits of standard contract work.
Painters who know there’s more than flat finishes.
Drywall contractors looking for a different path forward.
Applicators who want to take their work to the next level of greatness.
It’s not for everyone.
But for the right people…
Because it opens something up.
